SGC Auditing
SGC offers a holistic and comprehensive range of auditing services, from basic legal compliance audits, to integrated health, safety and environmental (HSE) management system audits, second party audits (as confirmation of self-declaration regarding imple-mented ISO 14001 and 45001 systems), to food safety audits.
The SGC audit team provides an independent audit outcome by competent auditors to clients in the quest to uphold the best principles of risk management, in everyday business operations. The SGC audit process is based on a risk driven approach – the SGC ten step process/approach, which (interestingly) is also a recent requirement of the ISO 19011: 2018 standard.
SGC audits evaluate standards and measure in accordance with process/site-specific risks rather than fixed or invariable criteria. The audit identifies the company’s strengths, weaknesses and opportunities for improvement in the day-to-day management of their OHS/HSE risks, resulting in the prevention of occupational illness, injuries and other forms of life loss, ensuring sustainability and improvement of the organizational reputation/safety moral/responsible behavior.

A baseline audit is used as a basis to identify deviations between the client’s management system and that of SGC’s. The baseline audit serves as a consultation exercise and whilst the client will receive a detailed site report, no star grading will be allocated. The audit focuses largely on SHE risks, whereas emphasis placed on effort scores is covered in the Star Grading audit.
The Star Grading audit is conducted to determine the status of a client’s risk management system and compliance with the applicable SGC protocol. The audit is conducted annually or more frequently, if requested by the client. The result of the audit is displayed as a SGC Star Grading. The SGC audit team provides an independent audit outcome to clients in the quest to uphold the best principles of risk management in everyday business operations. The SGC audit process should be viewed from a risk driven perspective. Measurement and evaluation of standards should be measured in accordance with process/site specific risks rather than fixed and/or invariable criteria. The audit should identify a company’s strengths, weaknesses and opportunities for improvement in the day-to- day management of their safety health and environmental risks.
SGC focuses on digitalization, information governance and process quality. These areas are faced with three basic challenges that threaten the clients’ business success:
- Comply with customer requirements and government regulations and standards.
- Protect the organization through embedding quality and instituting best practices.
- Grow the organization, extending the customer reach and satisfaction, thereby increasing revenue.
